13 years ago today, at 6:34am, weighing 7lbs 13oz Finley came into the world and made it a better place. I remember so clearly getting an early morning call from @tarabish and jumping in the car to head up the A47 - L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N. Noah and the Whale was playing on the radio which I was blasting out, desperate to get there. I think of Finley whenever I hear it. I am so very very privileged to have been there when Finley was born (and Teddy too a few years later) holding Tara’s hand. Rhubarb and custard How fun to see this yesterday in The Times Style Magazine written by @helen_atkin . You see just last week I succumbed to a gift from me to me! Let me set the scene. At Christmas 🎄 I purchased Mr N a rather gorgeous pen 🖊️ . I knew he would love it, I didn’t realise how much until I saw his post on LinkedIn. I kept going back to the Paul Smith website and thinking at some point I’ll treat myself to one too. I fell in love with our ‘genius’ design cabi jumpsuits back in February 2017 in my first season as a cabi business owner and Stylist. I wore this black one pretty much everywhere, until it fell off of me! Why? Because it was stylish, comfy, could be dressed up or worn casually. How on earth is it Friday?! First thing I had my check in call with Emma. We meet once a week for 15 minutes to run through her weekly goals, plan activities, brainstorm capsules, talk about collaborating, and so much more. Of course there is always just a bit of chitchat too. This morning I was telling her the exciting news about my niece having her first baby - a boy - can’t wait to meet and have a cuddle with Jack. I had to add that my niece was wearing cabi, a Serenity Tee, when she gave birth - made both of us smile, a lot. This afternoon a quick trip to drop a few cabi packages off to my lovely clients and then onwards to the shops to grab some provisions to cook a meal for when we see Mr & Mrs N Senior this weekend. My first in person cabi gathering of the season was on Saturday afternoon 💃🏼. I headed off to my lovely host Annie to share an afternoon of fun with fashion amongst friends. 👯👯‍♀️👯‍♂️ I love telling the story of how Annie first discovered cabi, because it is quite unusual. When I started my business back in Spring 2017, I popped an excited post on my personal Facebook page about my new venture. I received a note from Steve Scott of @scottswinebar Steve is someone Mr N & I knew from our business past. He loved the idea of cabi and wanted to know how he could support me (says a lot obout the guy huh). So we met for coffee ☕️ and agreed a date 📅 for his wife to host in the wine bar 🍷🍾one Saturday afternoon when it wasn’t open. That was 7 years ago and last Saturday we came together for our 21st cabi gathering. How amazing is that. The number crunchers amongst you will be saying but Mandy you’re only in your 15th season and 4 of those seasons were in a pandemic, so how can Annie have hosted 21 times? Well actually very easily. Annie will often host twice a season - once at the beginning and once nearer the end of a season. Sorry for any creases, I just had to put it on to do a show and tell as so excited to have just taken delivery of my Keynote Jacket - a jacket that at first glance is simply a classic navy jacket BUT of course it has all the cabi details. Hopefully you can see the sateen contrast that crosses from the front princess seaming that go all the way round to the back princess seaming, visually drawing your waist in. This jacket will take you anywhere - with jeans as a classic blazer, with the matching Keynote Trouser as a suit, over a shift dress. Totally timeless. But the first place it needs to go, is on to my rail, ready to be steamed. For me (as I know you know) the deep cherry red Ford Jacket has been my go to. But I also love the sold out Williams Jacket too. I was on a Teams call this morning and the person on the other side commented how well my blouse went with the artwork behind me. I have to say, I thought the same thing when I too switched the camera on to prepare for the meeting. 💻 It set me thinking how much I have worn this blouse 👚 since it arrived. From casual days to work presentations, as well as to going out nights. I simply love the shape, it has darts to bring you in at the waist. I LOVE the cuffs that you can zhuzh. It’s funny how as the season goes on there are always pieces which start to appeal more. I have some hosts who gather their friends at the start of the season and again near the end of the season, they will swear blind that I didn’t present some of the Collection the first time. Of course I did, but we’re looking for different things in August than we are in November/December or February vs May/June. Over the last week, my wardrobe choices have changed. Representing a US brand, this time of year I’m surrounded by my @cabiclothing sisters who are about to take some time out to celebrate Thanksgiving. It really is a time to be grateful and whilst not celebrated the same way here, the celebration stems from a similar concept to our own Harvest Festival. Listening to their conversations caused me to reflect on all the things I’m grateful for. My family and friends, my health, my happiness, my business and the support of my wonderful and loyal clients, it really means so much. During this reflection time, I paused to think that not only do they support me and my business, they also support women in need every season through our Heart of cabi Foundation.
